What Annapolis gym or health club is right for you?
If you live in Annapolis and like to work out you should feel blessed because you have options — many of them — when it comes to selecting a gym or health club for your fitness routine and goals. With two more gyms opening in 2022, we thought it was time to give Annapolitans an unbiased review of your local gym and health club options.
And luckily, we have some pretty darn good ones here locally to choose from, and their customers agree. Everyone on this list is at or above 4.5 stars on Google and Facebook — two places we often look to learn more about a local business — with most being closer to five stars.
Gyms and Health Clubs in Annapolis
Annapolis Athletic Club
Known as AAC to their members, this gym and health club is located in the Eastport neighborhood of Annapolis. They offer group classes on all of your basics and also have cycling classes and offer Reformers Pilates. In terms of a health club, this has been a popular and locally owned option for many years. They have a sauna and steam room, and nice well-kept amenities.Evolutions by Coppermine
Evolutions is a well-known and really well-liked health club in Annapolis. They offer group yoga, pilates, and barre classes, and have an equipped gym floor with machines and cardio equipment, all included in your monthly membership fee. Additionally, they offer massage, stretching, personal training, and nutrition services for additional costs.Foundation Fitness
Foundation Fitness started in Virginia as a personal training studio, but the business expanded to become a membership-based fitness group. Their Annapolis location offers complimentary childcare, a healthy drink and snack bar, group classes, and personal training.Life Time Fitness
We don’t know much about this new gym coming to Annapolis later this year. On their website, they state they are “a luxury athletic resort” that will have an indoor lap pool and studios for cycle, yoga, and Pilates. They are part of a large franchise offering many different amenities by location. The Pip Moyer Rec Center is the Annapolis community's public facility (non-city residents can join, but they pay a slightly higher fee). This is not just a gym, it’s a community center with outdoor hiking, sports, volunteer opportunities, etc. They have an indoor walking track, basketball courts (or pickleball courts if that’s your sport!), and all the classes and gym facilities you’d expect. And they also offer personal training. If you haven’t been to the Truxton Pool since it’s been renovated, go have some fun and hit one of the giant slides this summer!
Retro Fitness
Retro Fitness is probably the most affordable option in Annapolis. It’s about $40 a month and you have access to all 120 locations across the nation. If you travel a lot and always need “your” gym that is hassle-free, this is certainly a good option. They offer all of the basic gym amenities one has grown accustomed to, without all the frill and flair.Snap Fitness has been in the local news lately as they are the newest addition to our community to open a new gym. They are part of a franchise and are open 24/7. Their website highlights their simple method for achieving fitness in a clean, open environment. As one of the only 24/7 options in Annapolis, for those with schedules that vary, it may make sense to find a place that’s always ready when you are.
The Hot Box Annapolis
This is a different kind of gym than most others on this list. The Hot Box focuses on fight-based classes. So, if boxing, kickboxing, and High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) are your jam — then training like a professional fighter might be something exciting and different to try. They offer personal training in addition to their classes and an open gym facility.
Gyms, Health Clubs, and Personal Training
With all of these options, you have a lot to choose from when it comes to how you ‘fitness’ in Annapolis. Working out and belonging to a gym or health club is a great way to stay active and live longer. Most of the facilities in our area have many different services and options so you’re likely to find a gym that offers something that interests you and keeps you moving.
As a personal training studio – that only offers personal training – we are encouraged by the research we conducted. We found that all of the gyms and health clubs in Annapolis agree that personal training is how to get the best results and meet your specific goals. Personal training means it’s personal—customized to you and what you want to accomplish.
So, when you’re ready to get serious about exceeding your fitness goals, give personal training a try. Whether here, or at the gym you belong to now, it will change your life.
