Kris joined the Excellence In Fitness team in 2012, bringing with him a vast knowledge of health and fitness. Born in Lexington, KY, and living all over the states, Kris fell in love with soccer at an early age. He played for multiple club and travel teams throughout his youth and into his high school career.
Upon graduation from Banks County High school in Georgia, having lettered in football and soccer, Kris enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. In his four years with the Marine Corps as an infantryman, Kris served with 1st F.A.S.T. (Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team), and 1st LAR (Light Armored Reconnaissance). Having developed a deeper love for fitness and learning a wide variety of techniques and training styles from his fellow Marines, Kris wanted to further his education in the health and fitness field. Pursuing his degree in Exercise Science, Kris has become certified as a personal trainer through ACE as well as through EIF’s Body of Excellence™ program. He is also certified in CPR/AED through AHA.
Kris has discovered a newfound love for triathlons. Having competed in multiple already, he plans to complete a full Iron Man by his 35th birthday. Kris is a valued team member at EIF and believes that the benefits of a healthy lifestyle far outweigh the physical, capturing the mental and emotional rewards as well. Through hard work, perseverance, and accountability, anything is possible.
Tony was born and raised in Harwood, MD and has always had a passion for sports and fitness. That love started at an early age when he started playing basketball for Galesville, a small town near Harwood. For many years he was an athlete only, never exposed to any one on one training except the special attention he received from his coaches and older family members. Sports were a mainstay in his life all the way through Southern High School where he played basketball, football and religiously lived in the weight room. While attending college in Lakeland, Florida, Tony began studying physical education and that lead him to continuing his education beyond the average curriculum.
Tony began working at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center on campus and excelled as a student fitness instructor. Upon returning home, he quickly got a job at Bowie Sport Fit and continued his love for working out and training. While still working in Bowie, Tony received a great opportunity to work in the chiropractic field, which went hand in hand because he was continually expanding his knowledge of the human body. After much extensive training in the chiropractic field and sitting before the Maryland Chiropractors Board of Examiners, Tony became a licensed Chiropractic Technician and spent four years at Advanced Chiropractic Center in Crofton. During those years he became very particular about proper body mechanics and that led him to educate many patients on the importance of exercise and stretching. Tony spent some time in Upper Marlboro coaching boys age 10-12 basketball and his practices where known to be pretty intense, maybe that’s why in the first season his boys only lost 1 game. In order to further his education,
Tony began studying for the American Council on Exercise (A.C.E.) Certified Personal Trainer Exam and passed it with flying colors. Armed with those two great certifications and energy through the roof, he started training clients in Severna Park, producing great results for his clients, and hasn’t looked back since. In addition to those previous certifications, Tony is also a Level one C.O.R.E. Instructor and has plans to add as many letters as possible to the end of his name. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing sports, and coaching his four nephews. With his ambition and wealth of knowledge in the health and fitness industry, his number one priority is making sure everyone of his clients obtain all of their specific goals utilizing the Body of Excellence™ program here at Excellence In Fitness.
Growing up in a military family, Matt was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and has lived in several countries worldwide, including South Korea and Japan.
Matt has been actively involved in strength training since high school, where he enjoyed playing many sports including basketball, football, soccer, and baseball. He took his interest in maximizing athletic performance and pursued further education at Towson University. In 2016, he graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. As a student, Matt worked in physical therapy clinics as a rehab tech and conducted research at Anne Arundel Medical Center, gaining invaluable knowledge on practical applications of biomechanics and injury prevention. Currently, Matt is in his first year at the University of Maryland-Baltimore, pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
Helping others achieve a goal that they initially deemed “too difficult” or even “impossible” and seeing that boost of confidence positively impact all aspects of their lives is what brings Matt the most pride in being a personal trainer. During his apprenticeship at EIF, Matt trained alongside and learned from many senior instructors, officially certifying him as a Body of Excellence Professional Fitness Coach. In his (very limited) free time, Matt enjoys training for obstacle courses such as the Tough Mudder, hiking with his dog, traveling, and cooking.
Scott was born in Long Island, New York and graduated from Kingston High School located in the Hudson Valley of upstate NY in 1984. Scott was a three-sport athlete throughout his high school career, playing soccer, wrestling and track at the varsity levels. His passion for one-on-one competition which began at the age of 8, lead him to focus on track and wrestling as his main sports where he excelled as a state level competitor in both.
As a sprinter in track, Scott competed in the 4×100 relay and 100 and 200 meters dashes. In his junior year, his 4×100 meter relay team took third place in the NYPSAA State track meet. Scott also competed as a long jumper and triple jumper and was a divisional long jump champion with a jump of 22′-2.”
While track was a huge part of Scott’s life as a young athlete, wrestling proved to be his first love. As a wrestler, Scott was a 2-time county, 2-time division and NYPSAA sectional tournament champion at 132/138 pound weight classes. Scott’s love for the sport of wrestling lead him into the world of coaching which he has been involved in for the past 15 years. His coaching career began in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, where he was a head youth coach and assistant high school coach. There he coached several young athletes who have gone on to compete at the Division 1 collegiate level.In 2002, Scott came to the fine state of Maryland where he and his family reside in the Ulmstead community of Arnold, MD. Scott has continued his commitment to the sport of wrestling and is currently the head varsity coach at Broadneck High School as well as the head coach of the Cape St. Claire youth wrestling program. Scott’s two sons, Collin and Cameron, both compete at a national level in wrestling under his tutelage as well as other members of the Maryland national teams.
Scott comes to Excellence In Fitness with the same passion for health and fitness as he does for wrestling. His goal as a personal trainer is to instill the same “I can” attitude in his clients when it comes to their goals just as he does with his wrestlers. Functionality, increased activity and confidence are all benefits that Scott feels he can bring to his clients lives. Watching a client break through mental and physical barriers are the most gratifying aspects of being a personal trainer for Scott. Scott knows from experience that the more you can push through those barriers, the more you can achieve – regardless of your individual goals.
Bobby lettered in football and basketball at South River High School. He graduated in 2008, and accepted an athletic scholarship to continue his football career at Old Dominion University. After spending two years there, Bobby decided to transfer to Shepherd University.
During his three years at Shepherd, the football team won two conference championships in addition to reaching the NCAA Division 2 final four. As the starting quarterback, Bobby led the Rams to an overall record of 17-5. During his senior season, he was named team MVP and first team all-conference. He was also chosen to play in the Prograss International Scout Bowl which was held in Florence, Alabama. Bobby graduated from Shepherd in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. Prior to joining the EIF team, he worked as a Performance Coach at Athletic Republic where he trained athletes of all ages. In addition to being CPR/AED certified Bobby is also a certified personal trainer through the National Strength Professionals Association (NSPA). Bobby also has experience at Excellence in Fitness as a client. In 2004 he was trained by the owner, Joe Aben, for his upcoming football season.
Darin comes to EIF with extensive experience in personal training and wellness coaching. He has also managed two fitness centers and has worked in the fitness equipment business.
Darin’s interest in health and fitness started at an early age. He was born in Annapolis, MD and moved to the New Jersey shore area when he was young. He grew up playing a multitude of sports and became an avid runner in middle school. He completed a marathon at age 15 and was one of the highest ranked high school freshman 1600 meter runners in the state. An injury his sophomore year sidelined his running career and he subsequently switched to pole vault. He loved the sport and became the top ranked vaulter in the county his senior year.
After graduating from the University of Richmond, Darin began a career in business. He stayed active in club sports including soccer, lacrosse, softball and crew. He began actively strength training at the gym and enjoyed researching and testing various fitness protocols. By chance, he started working in the fitness industry after several years in the investment business. What started as a part time job at his gym has become an exciting and rewarding career in the fitness industry for Darin.
Darin enjoys helping people improve their life through health and wellness and is still amazed at all of the incredible transformations he has seen with people he has worked with over the years.
Darin came to EIF’s owner, Joe Aben, expressing an interest in the Body of Excellence training program. He shares the same belief in Super Slow strength training and was very eager to learn more from Joe, EIF’s unique training model, and be part of an award winning Personal Training team.
In addition to training clients at EIF, Darin currently manages a fitness center for a major University/Hospital in Baltimore. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is certified with the American Sports & Fitness Association. He is also certified in CPR/AED with the American Red Cross.
Drew has always loved sports. In high school, she played softball and tennis. It was not until she moved to Whidbey Island in Washington State where she found her passion for fitness. Drew was certified in group fitness through the Athletics and Fitness Association of America in 2001 and has been teaching group fitness classes ever since. After having her first child in 2005, Drew decided to get certified in Stroller Strides so she could continue feeding her passion for teaching. She continued Stroller Strides until she decided to start teaching muscle conditioning and step classes. Drew felt as though these classes lit her fire even more and then made the decision to pursue her certification in Les Mills Body Combat in 2007 and continues to teach that class today. She became certified in Les Mills Body Vive in 2007 and Sh’Bam in 2010.
After falling in love with the martial arts aspect of Body Combat, she decided to pursue Muay Thai and began taking private Muay Thai lessons at a local mixed marital arts gym. Soon after, she found a hidden passion for MMA and started Fight Fit classes in 2013. She continues to teach those classes today and dabbles in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and striking classes when she finds the time. She also received her certification in mitt holding at Level Up in the summer of 2016.
Drew decided recently that she wanted to take her teaching a step further and transition to training clients one-on-one. She started working at Excellence In Fitness in the summer of 2016 and is Body of Excellence certified as a Professional Fitness Coach. Drew has made an immediate impact with encouraging and motivating her clients toward obtaining their health and fitness goals.
Katie is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer who graduated from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse with a B.S. in Exercise Sport Science, with an emphasis in Fitness and Health and a Minor in Nutrition Science. Katie recently moved to the Annapolis area from Chicago, Illinois where she was studying under Greg Roskopf to become a Muscle Activation Specialist. While completing her 9-month Muscle Activation Techniques Certification, Katie completed an internship at Muscle Activation of Schaumburg where she learned unique body restoration and muscular system balance techniques.
Katie grew up dancing competitively in Stillwater, Minnesota. Growing up a disciplined dancer, Katie found her passion for movement and the human body. In college, Katie quickly became an active member of the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse Dance Team and grew to become the Team Captain for 3 years. As Captain, Katie helped lead the team to several competition victories. With a rewarding career of competitive dancing coming to a close, Katie is ecstatic to have the opportunity to use her experience to help others find the best version of themselves and their body.
Katie spent the summer of 2017 under the tutelage of EIF owner, Joe Aben. During that time, she voraciously studied and quickly grasped the principles of his Body Of Excellence (BX) Resistance Training ProtocolTM and is now BX certified. She has immediately made an impact with the clientele at EIF. Katie is very excited to help as many individuals as possible with implementing positive changes in their lifestyles.
Ann found athletics suited her early on in life running cross county for CYO and playing youth soccer growing up in Washington DC. Moving to Annapolis with her family as a teenager, Ann attended St. Mary’s High School where she played field hockey, basketball and lacrosse. She continued to play field hockey and lacrosse at Notre Dame in Baltimore. At Notre Dame, she studied design and journalism and earned a post-graduate degree in Secondary Education. After graduating, Ann began her coaching career at Severna Park High School. At SP High School, she coached both field hockey and lacrosse. Over the years, Ann has also coached at St. Mary’s High School and Archbishop Spalding. Ann has been the Head Coach for the Severna Park High School Field Hockey Team for the past 6 seasons.
After marrying her husband, Dan (who also attended St. Mary’s), they decided to stay and raise their family in Annapolis. Their three children are also very active in athletics: field hockey, cross country, lacrosse and tennis have kept the Andrews family very busy. Ann has a passion for running but an ankle injury and surgery has sidelined her. Currently, her favorite workout includes the rower and resistance training – EIF style!
As a coach wanting to provide the absolute best training for her athletes, Ann made the decision to become a certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. During her certification, she found a true passion for helping others gain strength, lose weight and implement a healthy lifestyle. Since earning her certifications, Ann has also earned certifications in Weight Loss, TRX, Spinning, Box Master, Group Exercise, Mental Toughness and Flexibility. She is currently working on her Fitness Nutrition Certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
